Scottie Scheffler has been voted 2022 PGA TOUR Player of the Year, read more about his journey and the equipment he has used to help him become World No 1.
It has been a turbulent year on the tour circuit, with the launch of the LIV Golf Series taking over many headlines, but Scottie Scheffler can be extremely satisfied with what he has achieved on a personal level and he has the honours to prove it.
Scheffler, the world No 1 and US Masters champion, has been named the PGA Tour Player of the Year for 2022, as voted by the Tour’s membership for the 2021-22 season.
The 26-year-old’s four victories came at the WM Phoenix Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play and the Masters.
Those all came in a run of six starts. He also recorded 11 top ten finishes and four runner-ups, two of which arrived at the US Open and the Tour Championship behind Rory McIlroy.
Scheffler was selected ahead of McIlroy and Cameron Smith for the player of the year title. That is certainly some rise since he turned professional only four years ago in 2018.
Let’s take a look at what the main man has in his golf bag.
DRIVER – TaylorMade Stealth Plus
After signing an equipment contract with TaylorMade this year, Scottie has changed from a Ping G400 and Ping G425 to the Stealth Plus, this big dog delivers low spin and launch figures as well as high ball speed and carry. Expect to create BOMBS with the TaylorMade Stealth Plus Driver.
FAIRWAY – TaylorMade Stealth
He is believed to have swapped to the Stealth fairway, boasting around 16.5 degrees of loft, and a high launch model, after almost ten years of relying on his Nike VR Pro three-wood. He was forced into a rethink having seen his lucky three-wood crack last year on the range.
IRONS – Srixon Z U85, TaylorMade P7TW
Even though he has TaylorMade’s P7TW (a tribute to Tiger Woods’ relationship with the brand) making up most of his iron set, he has insisted on using Srixon’s Z U85 as his three and four-iron.
WEDGES – Titleist Vokey SM8
The former University of Texas scholar has three wedges in his bag. All are fitted with True Temper Dynamic Golf Tour Issue S400 shafts. Two of his wedges are Titleist Vokey SM8s with 50 and 56 degrees of loft and the other is a WedgeWorks Prototype with 60. Expect great distance and flight control, versatility and high levels of spin. All with a beautifully clean look and finish.
PUTTER – Scotty Cameron Special
The Scotty Cameron Special Select Timeless Tourtype GSS Protype went into Scheffler’s bag at the start of the year – before his rise to world No 1 and his triumph at Augusta. That says what you need to know about a club with a traditional design.
This prototype isn’t available to buy but you can find other Scotty Cameron putters here.
BALL – Titleist Pro V1
Still widely regarded as the best golf ball in the sport, the American has seen no reason to deviate away from something that has worked well for him over several years. Titleist have found the formula for the optimal combination of feel, spin, and speed, and it's no surprise to see that Scottie and 69% of the top 100 PGA Tour Players are using either the Pro V1 or Pro VX.
