The Open Championship 2013 – Prize Money

in News

the-open-2013How much will the winner of The Open Championship 2013 earn? The R&A has announced that the total prize money for the 2013 Open is £5.25million. The winner at Muirfield will walk away with a cool £945,000.

This winner’s cheque is £45,000 up on last year when Ernie Els won at Royal Lytham. The Open 2013: Prize money 1st: £945,000, 2nd: £545,000, 3rd: £350,000. This brings the The Open in line with the three other golf majors – The Masters, the US Open and the USPGA Championship.

Peter Dawson – chief executive of the R&A, which organises the Open – said in April that it was “very important” that the prize fund remained competitive with the three other major championships.

Back in April Adam Scott picked up $1,440,000 when he became the first Australian to win The Masters. The total Augusta Masters 2013 Prize Money was $8,000,000.

Who will be the lucky man to pick up the winners cheque this year? We’ve just been looking at the latest betting at FREEbets.org.uk and, as expected, Tiger Woods is the favourite. Otherwise it’s a very ‘Open’ field this year with other major winners Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Graeme McDowall joint second favourites at 20/1.
