Golf Property

It’s many a golfer’s dream to live in a beautiful house, beside an even more gorgeous golf course. The only question then is, to stay or not to stay? After all, there are incredible houses (and irresistible courses) all over the world.

In Costa Blanca and Costa Calida in Spain, you’ll find some real gems. There’s the wonderful weather, delicious food, cheap flights to and from the UK and those all important Spanish golf havens all on offer. By living off resort and getting memberships or joining golf societies you’d be surprised how affordable a golfing dream can really be. It’s a relaxing and healthy lifestyle too!

Want some examples of what’s on offer in Spain? How about the United Golf Resorts (a trail of 72 holes) in Murcia, 15 minutes drive from brilliant beaches and a lively village and yet set amid a rolling, lush green landscape.

It was designed by Spanish golf course designer, Pepe Gancedo and he was sympathetic to the natural landscape, using it and gently sculpting it rather than replacing or re-imagining its beauty. There are 3 to 4 bed villas here and 2 to 3 bed apartments and all of them include gardens, balconies or a terrace from which to enjoy the incredible views. One advertisement we found for the villas boasts: “air-conditioning, marble floors, alarms, fitted kitchens, fitted wardrobes, automatic blinds and central vacuum system.” What more could you want out of a new home?

To the US and Beyond

Across to the United States and Reynolds Plantation is world famous for being a real golf and lake community and a beautiful, peaceful place to live. There are over 10,000 acres of land and more than 80 miles of shoreline along the lake (which is one of Georgia’s largest.) Then there are the incredible amenities and naturally, the breath-taking golf course!

Reynolds Plantation is a place where people build their dream homes and several famous golf magazines have actually constructed homes there to show how easy and rewarding an endeavour it can be. The website gushes that: “Tailoring your home to fit your specific interests is easy. You can choose your view from amongst golf, wooded or lakefront home lots, and a list of approved Reynolds Plantation Architectural Review Board builders ensures your home complements the natural setting.”

You can even buy a pre-designed home with customisable options to make sure your house is built fast and to your own, simple specifications. There are show homes at Reynolds Plantation to help you decide on your lay out and of course, they make it easier for you to imagine yourself living in the finished product.

How much will this all set you back? It’s surprisingly not that expensive. A pre-made lake-side 3 bedroom house with a porch, complete with stereotypical Americana rocking chair will set you back $485,000, which by current (recession) currency conversion prices is just over £329,000. Alternatively, you could buy a plot at the Reynolds Plantation for just over $100,000 and build your own home, however! What’s more, a little cottage (with 2 bedrooms) only costs $245,000 completed; that’s £164,000.

France and UK

Turning to France it’s a similar story and a few quick searches will reveal plenty of Golf Properties in sought after locations for affordable prices. For example, the Billere Golf Club in Pau is one of the oldest surviving golf courses in Europe and it was founded in 1856 by the British Army, these days you can buy a nearby property and still enjoy all that the course has to offer. Although often discounted by Brits, France has just as much to offer a golfer as the US, Spain and Portugal!

Here in the UK you’ll expect to pay quite a lot to be close to a good golf course and perhaps that’s why so many people cast their gaze abroad when they’re picturing a dream golfer’s home. However, there are still some places in Scotland, Wales and Yorkshire which are close to courses but still within the grasp of an ordinary human being!
