With the opening of the Crete Golf Club in July 2003 it’s now possible to have a golf holiday in Crete that includes golf on a USGA standard championship golf course.
Already one of the most popular holiday break destinations in Greece, Crete can now be considered a golf holiday destination since the opening of the Crete Golf Club.
Crete Golf Club
Designed by Bob Hunt, the Crete Golf Club is a beautiful desert-style chamionship golf course situated in the east of the island near Hersonissos. Set into the rugged Cretan mountainside, not only does the golfer get a championship standard test of golf but also gets to enjoy the beautiful Cretan hillside with views to the blue Aegean Sea.
The golf course is meticulously maintained all year around and the greens in particular are beautiful to putt on. It’s been compared by some golfers to the desert courses of the Palm Springs area of California due to the strong contrast of the rocky hillside and the lush green fairways.
The rugged Cretan landscape comes into play on many of the holes at the Crete Golf Club and the golfer has to think rather than just hit the ball on this course.

Porto Elounda Golf Club
Porto Elounda is a 9-hole course situated in the beautiful town of Elounda. For many years it was the only golf course on Crete but now has a reciprocal agreement with the Crete Golf Club allowing hotel guests to play either course.
With views out to one of the most beautiful bays in the Aegean Sea, the Mirabella Bay, the Port Elounda is a spectacular setting for a golf course. Elounda is also home to some of the most up-market and luxurious hotels on the island.
