The hot metal face construction is springy, a bit like a driver or hybrid club, so the ball comes off the clubface faster giving you extra distance – early reviewers are talking about a club more!

Building on the success of the MX range of irons Mizuno JPX 800 irons have a specially tuned face. The wide tuning makes it easier to hit out of the toe and out of the heel. The new Wilson Staff Di11 Irons are designed for players looking for more distance and forgiveness. They are easy to hit and if your in the market for a set of 2011 super game improvement irons then these really need to be on your short list.

If you are a high handicapper who doesn’t get much time to practice and is looking for clubs with a little helping technology then these clubs have been designed for you. Wilson Staff has developed the Di11s for what they call the D-Player – basically high handicap golfers who don’t have much time to practice swing technique and perfect their ball striking.

Wilson has employed a design that effectively stretches the sweetspot out over the whole clubface. So even if you hit the ball out of the toe of heel you’ll not see as much lost distance or extreme curve balls! Wilson has also integrated an elastomer insert in the cavity which helps to dampen vibration and gives a really nice crisp sound which inspires confidence.

For just over the £300 mark the Wilson Staff Di11 Irons represent very good value for money. This gets you 7 irons (5-SW) and some retailers are even throwing in a FREE WEDGE.

The Di11s come in three shaft options: Steel, Full Graphite and Wilson’s patented Half Graphite / Half Steel shaft. Expect to pay more for the graphite and half & half shaft options. Most will prefer the steel shafts, but, as there’s less weight in the shafts with graphite they will appeal to senior golfers or golfers who prefer lightweight clubs.

It’s easy to see why these irons are on the 2011 Golf Digest Hot List – distance, forgiveness, excellent build quality, they look great and they’re very reasonably priced.

Titlest AP2 Irons Review

Tour Level Irons For The Aspiring Mid-Capper – Titleist has long had a reputation as The Player’s Player’s Club. Their clubs were better known for accuracy, balance, workability, and craftsmanship. Basically, the word “forgiveness”, was not usually associated with the Titleist brand. The AP2 irons, however, represent Titleist’s entry into that newest category of iron–Player’s Club for the Aspiring Mid-capper.

Touch of Forgiveness

It wasn’t until recently that all the clubmakers jumped on the bandwagon and started building clubs for mid-cappers. Up until then, you pretty much had your choices limited to blades for players, chunky cavity backs for higher mid-cappers and aspiring high cappers, and super chunky clubs for beginners and high cappers. If you were a lower mid-capper with a repeatable swing, an ability to work the ball, a desire to become a low-capper/scratch golfer, but not quite ready for blades–you were out of luck. Clubs such as these AP2′s, sporting excellent balance, superior accuracy, forged feel, and the latest technology simply weren’t around. These clubs change all of that.

Great Workability

Balance is something that is of prime importance to all golfers, but to scratch golfers, a club without balance is absolutely worthless. These clubs have it in great abundance. From slow turning takeaway, to back of the neck follow through, club head awareness is an almost zen-like experience. You will know where that club head is at all times, and this makes working the ball left and right a heck of a lot easier as compared to most other irons currently in the market place.

Traditional Loft

Distance isn’t usually one of the main reasons people buy player’s clubs, but it is important to know that you don’t have to sacrifice distance just to get a club that sports good balance and that smooth as butter forged feel. These clubs are easily the equal of other tour level clubs in that department. Better yet, they didn’t have to juice the lofts to do it either. The Pitching Wedge in this set is still the old traditional 47* and not one of those over-juiced 44/45* 9 Irons in disguise that so many other sets are carrying these days.

Feels like butter!

The feel of these clubs, if I haven’t already mentioned it, is fit for the old cliche, “feels like buttah.” Titleist has always had a quality forging, and it shows. From the smooth swinging 21* 3 Iron to the high flying aforementioned 47* Pitching Wedge these clubs sport a feel that can’t be beat.

Along with the chunkier Titleist AP1 Irons, these Titleist AP2 Irons offer low- and mid-handicappers classic looking Titleist Irons with a touch of forgiveness.

Benefits of Wilson Staff D-FY Combo Transition Irons

Wilson D-FY irons are designed with the mid- to high-handicapper in mind and are set to benefit golfers with slower swing speeds looking for extra distance.

The half steel half graphite shafts in D-FY irons are thermally fused and offer the playability of steel with the feel of graphite. The big benefit is that the shafts weigh only 76 grams, roughly the same weight as standard graphite shafts.

“The average golfer with the average swing speed is going to fall in love with these,” said Mike Hanschke, a sales representative for Wilson Golf. “The loading and unloading of the shaft is unlike anything else in the marketplace. The average swing-speed player will gain distance, guaranteed.”

The standard D-FY iron set consists of two hybrids (3- and 4-irons), two hollow-back irons (5 and 6) and four cavity-back irons (7, 8, 9 and pitching wedge).

Patented ‘Half and Half’ Shaft

What does that mean for the average golfer? “You get the feel of graphite with the response of steel,” Pergande said.

The shaft is lightweight, which promotes faster swing speed and greater distance. But the steel offers greater torsional stability and the “feel” many golfers want in irons.

Hollow-core mid-range Irons

Hollow 5-iron and 6-iron utilize an easy-to-hit ultra wide sole design. “In the testing we’ve done, we get the ‘wow’ factor, particularly in the mid- to long-irons,” Pergande said. “That 5- and 6-iron is a major point of difference over most of our competitors’ clubs. That’s the one that a lot of consumers come back to. The hybrids are very easy to hit, very forgiving.”

Some say the ‘Best Irons Ever Made’, the Callaway X-20 Irons are going through a bit of a price drop in the UK. The good news for Callaway bargain hunters is that some of the big online retailers are offering these great irons for around the £350 mark – normally £599.

As seen on Sky, American Golf is offering the Callaway X-20 Irons (4-SW) for £379, normally £599, although they’ll usually price match if you find a cheaper deal.
